The School of International Letters and Cultures offers a graduate program in French leading to an MA degree in French with concentrations in literature, linguistics or comparative literature.

The Plan of Study is the required curriculum to complete the program.
Candidates for the master's should, upon entrance, present the equivalent of an undergraduate major in the language in which the degree is sought. Those who lack this background but who show strong potential and meet Graduate Education admission requirements may be admitted to a graduate program on a provisional basis, pending removal of specified deficiencies. These deficiencies must be completed in addition to the regular program of study for the master's degree.
Applicants must fulfill both the requirements of Graduate Education and those of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Comprehensive Examination: All candidates are required to pass a comprehensive written examination designed to evaluate the candidate's knowledge in the area of specialization. A reading list, as agreed upon, serves as a guide to prepare for this examination.
