Research Interests

I specialize in the study of French poetry and narrative from Baudelaire to surrealism. I have worked also on the autobiographical writings of Andr Gide, Jean Cocteau, Paul Lautaud, Julien Green, among others. My other interests are the history of the book and illustrated books from the 19th century to surrealism and the relationship between text and image. My research has been supported by fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Carnegie Institute for the Arts.
