Biography

Barbara Asenjo is a doctoral candidate in ASU Department of Spanish and Portuguese and is completing her dissertation on the narrative of Cuban author Leonardo Padura Fuentes. She graduated summa cum laude from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological and Ecological Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Her research interests involve: contemporary Latin American literature, film and culture, with emphasis in Cuban studies.

  • Crisis of identity in the post-revolutionary Cuban literature, cinema.
  • Contemporary Latin American literature, film and culture
  • Masculinities and sexuality in Cuban film
  • Photography as a system of visual representation within the context of the Afro-Cuban Yoruba identity
